Massimiliano Allegri has vowed to bring AC Milan back to the top of European football as he returns for a second stint as manager, aiming to revive a struggling side that missed out on Europe last season.
Unveiled on Monday, Allegri replaces Sergio Conceicao after the Rossoneri’s disastrous 2024–25 campaign, which saw them finish eighth in Serie A and lose the Coppa Italia final to Bologna. Speaking at a press conference in Singapore ahead of a pre-season clash with Arsenal, Allegri set a clear target: a return to the UEFA Champions League.
“A club like AC Milan has to be in Europe. That’s the only goal I have right now,” the 57-year-old said. “We’re not going to look back — we’re moving forward.”
Allegri, who previously managed AC Milan from 2010 to 2014 and delivered the club’s last Scudetto in 2011, returns with a proven track record, including five straight league titles with Juventus.
Key to his plans is Croatian legend Luka Modric, a recent signing from Real Madrid. At 39, Modric brings not only experience but the mentality of a champion — something Allegri hopes will inspire a return to Milan’s golden days.
“Modric is a player who doesn’t need an introduction. He leads by example, on and off the pitch,” Allegri said. “His presence will be crucial in our push back to the top.”
With Allegri back at the helm and Modric set to anchor the midfield, Milan fans have renewed hope that the seven-time European champions can reclaim their place among the continent’s elite.
