1. Can you take us back to the beginning—what inspired your journey into music, and how did Sunstar Ijoko the artist come to life?

My journey into music started from my family background. I come from a home where my father was a local singer who performed in our native language. Watching him made me realize early that music is more than entertainment—it is a powerful voice. I discovered that through music, I could speak about the realities of my people and share stories that matter. I was also inspired by great artists like Fela Anikulapo Kuti, 2Face Idibia, and Afrobeat legend Davido. Their courage, sound, and message helped shape my identity and gave birth to the artist now known as Sunstar Ijoko.

2. Every artist faces obstacles. What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve encountered in your music career so far, and how did you overcome them?

One of my biggest challenges started when I was still in secondary school. My family wanted me to focus on a different course of study because they believed the music industry was uncertain and risky. However, I believed strongly in my talent and refused to let go of my dream. That decision led me to Lagos, around Lekki and Awoyaya, where life became very tough. I slept on the streets and survived by doing construction work, security jobs, house help, and farm work. I had no family support at that time, and many friends stayed away. What helped me survive was my faith, my determination, and the encouragement of one loyal friend, Emmanuel Ikade, who supported me financially when he could.

3. Your recent track “Shoe Get Size” — what’s the story behind the song, and what message were you aiming to pass across?

“Shoe Get Size” came from my upbringing in a humble and loyal family. As I grew, I noticed how people often judge others based on status, class, or appearance—what we call “shoe get size.” Many people expected me to live a flashy lifestyle, but when they met me, they were surprised by my simplicity. The song carries the message that regardless of your position or level of leadership, you should treat everyone with grace. Wisdom, humility, and understanding can help you overcome any situation in life.

4. How would you describe the progress of the track, “Shoe Get Size,” since its release?

Since its release, “Shoe Get Size” has taken me deeper into the Lagos music scene and expanded my reach across Africa. The song opened doors for me and gave me opportunities to perform at several local shows, especially in December and early 2026. It has helped people recognize my sound and message, and I believe it is gradually marking my name in the music industry.
