Early Life and Background

Peter Effiong Afahaeme, professionally known as May P, was born on the 3rd of March, 1995, in the historic coastal town of Oron, Akwa Ibom State. Raised in a deeply Christian home by Pastor and Deaconess Mary Effiong Afahaeme, May P grew up in an environment rooted in discipline, faith, and moral values. This upbringing played a major role in shaping his character, worldview, and artistic depth.

From an early age, May P showed signs of being introspective and reserved. While he struggled with social interaction, he discovered that music gave him a voice—one that allowed him to express emotions, thoughts, and stories he couldn’t easily communicate through conversation.

Educational Background

May P’s educational journey began in Oron, where he attended Government Primary School, Iquita, Oron, earning his First School Leaving Certificate.

He proceeded to Frank Comprehensive High School, Oron, where he completed his secondary education and obtained his Senior School Leaving Certificate. It was during his high school years that his passion for music became more evident, as he actively engaged in singing and musical expression.

To further his education, he enrolled at Heritage Polytechnic, Satellite Campus, Oron, where he obtained a National Diploma (ND). Balancing academics with creative passion, May P continued to nurture his musical talent throughout this period.

Music Career Journey

Although May P had been singing since his secondary school days, his professional music career officially began in 2022 with the release of his debut EP titled “Blow.” The project marked his first major step into the Nigerian music scene.

“Blow” received radio airplay on K-Vibe FM, Calabar, introducing his sound to a wider audience, although the project did not receive extensive promotion at the time.

In 2024, May P released his second single titled “Nkem.” The song was aired on Hit FM, specifically on the popular Otuetue Evening Show, further strengthening his presence as an emerging artist. Like his first release, promotion was limited, but the track resonated with listeners who appreciated its lyrical depth and melody.

His third release, “Omalicha,” came out in 2025. Although the song has not yet been officially promoted, it reflects artistic growth, confidence, and refinement in his sound.

Discography and Streaming Platforms

May P’s songs are available on several digital platforms:

  • Audiomack: Blow, Nkem, Omalicha
  • Beats-To-RapOn: Blow, Omalicha
  • Apple Music: Blow

These releases collectively showcase his evolving artistry and commitment to music despite limited promotion and resources.

Musical Inspiration and Style

Music became May P’s refuge and expressive outlet due to his naturally introverted personality. Unable to freely socialize, he found comfort and identity in songwriting and singing. Music allowed him to transform emotions into meaningful sound.

Artistically, May P draws inspiration from some of Nigeria’s most iconic musicians. 2Baba (Tuface Idibia) and P-Square influenced his appreciation for meaningful lyrics and emotional storytelling. Later, Wizkid inspired his melodic flow and contemporary sound. The lyrical strength and delivery style of these artists continue to shape May P’s musical direction.

Achievements

While still an emerging artist, May P has achieved notable milestones, including:

  • Multiple radio airplays across recognized stations in Calabar and Akwa Ibom
  • Independent release of three professional songs across major streaming platforms
  • Establishing a growing digital presence despite minimal promotion

These achievements reflect resilience, passion, and a strong foundation for future success.
