Controversial social commentator Martin Otse-Vincent, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has publicly criticized his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over a social media post warning him against the dangers of his bold online activism.
Adeyanju, a prominent legal practitioner, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express concern about VDM’s repeated involvement in confrontational and high-risk online advocacy. In his tweet, he urged the activist to adopt a more cautious approach, citing the personal risks involved.
“I constantly urge VDM to avoid taking unnecessary risks, but he rarely listens. If anything happens to him, life will go on for everyone else. We tend to overestimate our relevance. Nigerians don’t place much value on individuals,” Adeyanju wrote.
While some interpreted the message as heartfelt advice from someone with experience in activism and legal battles, VDM saw it differently. In a video posted to his Instagram page, the outspoken figure slammed Adeyanju, calling the tweet disappointing and hurtful—especially coming from his own lawyer.
“I am really disappointed by this tweet from my lawyer,” VDM said. “If it was someone else, I wouldn’t mind. I would just say they don’t know better. But for Deji Adeyanju to say this?”
VDM, who recently opened the headquarters of his non-profit organization, emphasized that he expected encouragement and protection from his legal team—not public warnings that, to him, seemed like discouragement or abandonment.

The spat has stirred conversation online, with fans and critics alike weighing in on the balance between bold activism and personal safety—and the role of legal advisers in such situations. As tension brews between the activist and his lawyer, one question now echoes through the discourse: “So who go bail him?”
