Natasha Remains Suspended, Senate Defends Entry Denial To Lawmaker

The Nigerian Senate has reaffirmed the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, preventing her from resuming legislative duties despite a recent court ruling in her favor.

Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, confirmed that the Kogi Central lawmaker remains suspended until the Senate reconvenes from its current recess in two months.

Earlier that day, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had attempted to return to plenary at the National Assembly in Abuja, citing a Federal High Court judgment by Justice Binta Nyako that appeared to support her reinstatement. However, she was denied entry by Senate authorities.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator was suspended in March 2025 following a heated altercation in the chamber, which included a clash over seat arrangements and an accusation of sexual misconduct against Senate President Godswill Akpabio — an allegation Akpabio has firmly denied.

Despite the legal backing she referenced, Adaramodu maintained that the Senate’s internal disciplinary measures remain in effect until formally reviewed after recess.

For now, the standoff between the embattled lawmaker and the Senate leadership appears far from over.
