Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Special Duties, Ini Ememobong, has officially resigned from his position following Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ememobong announced his resignation in a statement shared via his Facebook page on Friday, citing his refusal to follow the governor into the APC. He explained that his decision was based on personal convictions and his long-standing opposition to the APC’s ideology.
“Behold another bend. Today, I have tendered my resignation to the Governor in compliance with his directive that his appointees who are unwilling to join him on the political journey to the APC should resign,” he wrote.
“While I cannot question or fault the governor’s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn. My decision is borne out of my belief in politics with principles and my long-standing opposition to that political platform.”
His resignation came shortly after Governor Eno officially announced his switch to the APC on Friday. The governor had earlier directed all cabinet members unwilling to decamp with him to tender their resignations.
Ememobong’s departure marks a significant fallout from the governor’s political realignment and signals potential rifts within the state’s political structure.
