Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in the state. The official declaration took place on Friday in Uyo, the state capital.

The defection follows Governor Eno’s recent remarks at a town hall meeting in Ikot Abasi, where he stated, “It is time to move,” signaling his intention to align Akwa Ibom State with the APC-led federal government. He revealed that the decision came after extensive consultations with stakeholders across various levels.

In a show of solidarity, several APC governors visited Akwa Ibom to welcome Eno into the party. Among those present were the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as well as Governors Bassey Otu (Cross River), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi).

Governor Eno’s defection is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape in Akwa Ibom, traditionally a stronghold of the PDP, and could influence the state’s future alignment with national political dynamics.
