President Bola Tinubu is set to host Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, the D’Tigress, today at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This follows their remarkable victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where they defeated Mali 78–64 in a thrilling final on Sunday.

According to State House officials, the reception is in recognition of the team’s exceptional performance and their role in bringing pride to the nation.

The win marks a historic achievement for D’Tigress, as they secured their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh overall—making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history. With this latest triumph, they have now gone unbeaten in the competition for 10 straight years, further solidifying their dominance in African women’s basketball.

Under the leadership of head coach Rena Wakama, the team overcame a slow start in the final to take control in the second half, executing a tactical and disciplined game plan that left Mali unable to recover. Their journey to the final also included a hard-fought semi-final victory over Senegal.

This celebration follows President Tinubu’s recent reception of the Super Falcons, after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) win in Morocco. During that event, each player received $100,000, technical crew members were awarded $50,000, and all team members were honoured with the national title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), along with three-bedroom homes under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.
