LAGOS, Nigeria – Congolese Afro House artist Ismak Bleuciel delivered an energetic cultural performance during the 66th Independence Day celebration of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), organized by the Congolese Community in Lagos, Nigeria, on July 1st 2026. The colorful event brought together members of the Congolese diaspora, community leaders, cultural organizations, and guests to celebrate the nation’s rich heritage, unity, and independence.

The ceremony was presided over by Vice President of the Congolese Colony in Nigeria, Pastor John Kwete, who represented the community leadership while the President of the Congolese Colony was attending official engagements in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Also in attendance were former presidents of the Congolese Colony, respected community elders, and representatives of the country’s four national languages—Lingala, Swahili, Kikongo, and Tshiluba—demonstrating the nation’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

Among the distinguished cultural representatives was Ismak Bleuciel, who serves as the Cultural Officer for the Swahili language, the country’s second most widely spoken national language, used across ten provinces of the DRC. He attended the event alongside the Secretary General for Swahili Affairs, Mrs. Mariam Kirubi, reaffirming their commitment to preserving and promoting Congolese culture among the diaspora.

Known for blending Afro House rhythms with contemporary African melodies, Ismak Bleuciel has steadily built a reputation as one of the emerging Congolese artists based in Nigeria. His growing catalogue includes popular releases such as “Focus,” “Posa,” “You’re Sweet,” “Qad Spoil,” and “I Love My Baby,” reflecting his versatile musical style and commitment to modern African entertainment. His latest “Focus” EP, released in 2026, further highlights his evolution as a performer and songwriter.

During the independence celebration, Bleuciel thrilled the audience with a vibrant performance that blended music, dance, and patriotic expression. His stage presence captivated attendees, reinforcing music’s role in preserving national identity and strengthening bonds among Congolese living abroad.

The cultural showcase featured a variety of traditional performances. The Baluba cultural group entertained guests with authentic traditional dances that celebrated the customs and heritage of one of the DRC’s largest ethnic communities. The event also included an impressive martial arts exhibition by Master Motoro Julle, a respected Taekwondo instructor, who presented his team in a demonstration of discipline, athleticism, and cultural pride.

One of the day’s most emotional moments came when Congolese children born in Nigeria proudly sang the national anthem of the Democratic Republic of the Congo before performing additional songs in Lingala, the country’s foremost national language. Their performances symbolized the successful transmission of Congolese culture to a new generation growing up outside their homeland.

Speaking during the celebration, community leaders emphasized the importance of unity, cultural preservation, and continued engagement among Congolese citizens living in Nigeria. The event served not only as a commemoration of the DRC’s 66 years of independence but also as a celebration of the resilience, diversity, and enduring spirit of the Congolese people.

Through artists such as Ismak Bleuciel, the Congolese community continues to use music, language, and cultural performances to strengthen national identity while building bridges between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria. The celebration concluded with renewed calls for peace, unity, and greater collaboration among Congolese communities around the world.
