D’Krisanto is a Nigerian Afrobeat artist, songwriter, composer, singer, and performer. In this brief interview with FameNet Africa, D’Krisanto talks more about his track “Oga di Mma” and his journey so far in the music industry.

1. Who is D’Krisanto and his style of music?
Ans: Chris Ugochukwu Ekwobi, popularly known as D’Krisanto, is a Nigerian Afrobeat music artist, songwriter, composer, singer, and performing artist. Before fully embracing music, he worked as a professional banker, an experience that shaped his discipline and work ethic. However, his heart has always belonged to music. As an Afrobeat artist, D’Krisanto blends rhythmic African sounds with soulful melodies and meaningful lyrics. His style reflects everyday realities, personal struggles, gratitude, and hope. He creates music that speaks to both the streets and the soul, delivering messages that are relatable, inspirational, and deeply rooted in African identity.

2. Your song “Oga Adi Mma”, what inspired you to write and record this track?
Ans: Many dedicated, hardworking, gifted, and talented people are going through serious difficulties, and sadly, some have already given up on their dreams. Sometimes, we wrongly assume that life is meant to be smooth and easy, like a bed of roses. But reality proves otherwise. Challenges and downtimes are part of life’s journey. They are divinely orchestrated seasons meant to build resilience and prepare us for better days ahead. “Oga Adi Mma” was born from this understanding — to remind people that tough times are temporary and that perseverance eventually leads to breakthrough.

3. What does the title “Oga Adi Mma” mean?
Ans: “Oga Adi Mma” is an Igbo phrase that loosely translates to” it will be better soon” or e go beta “ in pidgin.” The title reflects the honest reality of life’s struggles. However, beyond acknowledging hardship, the song carries a strong message of hope and positivity. It encourages listeners to understand that with perseverance, patience, and resilience, success will come in due time. The song serves as a reminder that no condition is permanent and that endurance is key to overcoming life’s storms.

4. How does this song reflect your personal life experiences or spiritual journey?

Ans: My experience as a young man was characterised by ups and downs, but I never gave up. Growing up without my parents is a huge gap in my career. I always believe in myself. My life journey has truly been a mix of highs and lows. Growing up without my parents created a significant emotional and structural gap in my development. It was not easy navigating life without that foundational support system. However, instead of allowing those circumstances to define or limit me, I chose to use them as motivation. I learned independence early and developed inner strength. Believing in myself became my survival strategy. That belief continues to fuel my ambition and determination in the music industry today.

5. Since officially starting your music career in 2022, how would you describe your growth as an artist?
Ans: Honestly, I believe I am still in the early stages of my journey. I have not yet achieved what I would call a major breakthrough. The Nigerian music industry is highly competitive and largely dominated by already established artists. For upcoming talents, the journey can be very challenging, especially without the backing of a strong record label or structured support system. However, growth for me has come in experience, confidence, and improved creativity. Each project teaches me something new, and I remain hopeful that consistent effort will eventually yield significant results.

6. Transitioning from the banking industry into music is a bold move. What motivated that decision?
Ans: While I was still working in the banking sector, I recorded my first songs, “Ekeresimesi” and “Kenee” (meaning “Thank God”). During that time, I realized that the creativity was already inside me, but I lacked the time and flexibility to properly nurture it. Banking demanded most of my energy and attention, leaving little room for artistic expression. I had to make a tough decision — to either remain comfortable or pursue my true passion. I chose to follow my calling and resigned to fully focus on music. It was a risk, but one I believe was necessary for my personal fulfillment.

7. What major challenges have you faced so far in your music journey?
Ans: One of the biggest challenges has been limited financial support and lack of strong industry connections. Promotion, production, and branding require substantial resources. Without a major sponsor or record label, it becomes difficult to compete at the highest level. Additionally, gaining visibility in a saturated industry is not easy. However, these challenges have strengthened my resilience and pushed me to keep improving my craft.

8. How do you stay motivated and overcome obstacles when things get tough in the industry?
Ans: Whenever I face difficult tasks or discouraging situations, I focus on what is most important at that moment. I break my goals into smaller, manageable steps and tackle them one at a time. This structured approach helps me stay productive and avoid feeling overwhelmed. I also remind myself why I started in the first place — my passion for music and my desire to inspire others. That clarity keeps me moving forward.

9. How has the audience responded to Oga Adi Mma and your other songs like Kenee and For Life?
Ans: The response has been encouraging. I have received many positive comments and supportive feedback from listeners. People relate to the message of hope and gratitude in my songs. Hearing how my music connects with individuals gives me confidence and motivates me to keep creating.

10. What makes D’Krisanto’s sound unique in today’s Nigerian music industry?
Ans: What sets me apart is the sincerity and depth in my lyrics. My songs are not just about entertainment; they carry real-life experiences and emotional truth. I focus on storytelling, gratitude, and resilience, blending them with authentic Afrobeat rhythms. My background, struggles, and transition from banking to music also shape my unique perspective and delivery.

11. Looking ahead, what are your plans? Can fans expect collaborations, an EP, or major performances soon?
Ans: Yes, there are definite plans ahead. I am open to collaborating with other artists in the industry to expand my reach and explore new creative dimensions. A new single titled “4Life” is currently in production. Before the end of the year, fans can expect at least five to six new songs. The goal is to remain consistent, grow steadily, and take bigger steps toward major performances and wider recognition.
